Abstract 1204 Investigation of Quercetin-Induced Upregulation of Caspase-8 Utilizing Liposome Vesicle Transport
Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is a disease physiologically characterized by the excessive growth of tissue along the mucosal lining of the colon and rectum; this excessive proliferation is influenced by point mutations contributing to the overexpression of the Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). A flavonoid found in a variety of plants named Quercetin has been observed to decrease the excessive growth of different cancer types in vitro via upregulation of apoptotic mechanisms. To date, Quercetin's effects on cancer cell apoptosis have been investigated along the Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor (TNFR)1 pathway, an extrinsic apoptosis pathway triggered by the binding of pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α.
