Abstract 1892 Effect of Glucocorticoids on Tight Junction Proteins in Retinal Pigmented Epithelial Cells
Glucocorticoids (GCs) are adrenal hormones which play a key role in regulating inflammation. Synthetic GCs are used to treat a multitude of diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and leukemia. In the eye, these hormones are often used to treat conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, which can cause vision loss. Previous studies have shown that synthetic glucocorticoids like Dexamethasone (Dex) can regulate tight junction proteins in epithelial cells. Our study aims to investigate the specific effects of GC signaling on the integrity of retinal epithelial cells.
