Abstract 1706 MICAL2 Regulates Endosomal Fission
Endocytosis is a conserved process across species that involves the internalization of cell surface receptors, nutrients, and lipids from the plasma membrane. Following endocytosis, the internalized vesicles derived from the plasma membrane fuse with a membrane-bound organelle called the early endosome. Depending on the receptor type, the receptor cargos are typically directed to lysosomes for degradation via late endosomes or recycled back to the plasma membrane through recycling endosomes. A crucial endosomal event required for receptor recycling and degradation is endosome fission, which generates cargo-laden transport vesicles.
