Abstract 2681 Holistic student mentoring: Training the next generation of diverse scientific leaders
Current academic structures for mentoring are predominantly linear and non-flexible. Rethinking what is appropriate mentoring for any trainee takes a community where the mentee takes center stage and is invested in their mentoring. In this talk, I will present a holistic student mentoring approach and outline key areas to consider when undertaking a student-centered holistic mentoring approach that is inclusive and supportive of students from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Holistic mentoring will also be placed within the context of training the next generation of diverse scientific leaders to address humanity's most pressing needs.
