Abstract 2123 Potential Inhibitors of RGS2 evaluated for anti-cancer potential in Hs578T triple negative breast cancer cells
Our study objective is to lower the probability of metastasis in triple negative breast cancer cells by inhibiting the RGS2 protein. RGS2, or regulator of G protein signaling 2, is a protein that inactivates the Galpha-q subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein by enhancing its GTPase activity. RGS2 is specific for Galpha-q whose activity has been linked to chemotaxis and cell migration. High RGS2 levels correlates with poor patient survival and increased metastasis in prostate cancer patients. Moreover, inhibitors of RGS2-Galpha-q interaction inhibited the growth of multiple cancer types in cell culture assays and stopped the migration of prostate cancer cells in wound healing assays.
