Abstract 2557 A Novel Riboflavin Analog With Potential For Detecting Flavin Status and Deficiency
The bright yellow vitamin riboflavin (B2) is the precursor to the active cofactors flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN). Thus, ample riboflavin is necessary for redox pathways in transforming energy and the synthesis of critical metabolites. Deficiency is related to a host of diseases, including skin issues, liver degeneration, and iron metabolism. Yet detection of flavin levels is challenging, leaving a gap in our understanding of dietary deficiency for those at risk, especially women and children.
