Abstract 1293 Assessing the Cellular Toxicity of Novel Tanzawaic Acid-Derived Conjugation Inhibitors
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become an increasing threat over the years and has rendered numerous antibiotics ineffective. Horizontal gene transfer via bacterial conjugation has been associated with the dissemination of antibiotic-resistant genes among pathogens, thus contributing to rising AMR. AMR genes are transferred from the donor bacteria to the recipient through the type IV secretion system (T4SS). Inhibition of T4SS is a potential drug-design target to prevent the spread of AMR, and consequently the proliferation of multi-drug resistant pathogens.
