Abstract 1242 Surveying helix 12 dynamics within constitutively active human estrogen receptors containing somatic Y537S and D538G mutations
The estrogen receptor alpha (ERa) is a ligand-mediated transcription factor, that is activated by the natural steroid hormone 17β-estradiol (E2). Upon activation, the ERa regulates vital cell processes such as differentiation, signal transduction, metabolism, and proliferation. Unfortunately, dysregulated ERα activity can result in the onset of diseases, including cancer, osteoporosis, and neurodegeneration. In fact, ERa plays a pivotal role in several human cancers, with around 70% of newly diagnosed breast cancers overexpressing ERa.
