Abstract 1435 Role of ribosomal proteins and ribosomal biogenesis regulation upon Influenza A infection in lung epithelial cells
Background: Infections with influenza A virus (IAV) result in seasonal epidemics and occasionally pandemics, with a high mortality rate being a common consequence. Severe cases, such as virus-induced pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), are associated with disruptions in global protein synthesis and alterations in the host's translational machinery. Importantly, viral proteins are preferentially synthesized under these conditions. While recent studies have uncovered key mechanisms driving IAV-induced host shutoff, the role of the ribosome and its constituent ribosomal proteins (RPs) remains poorly understood.
