Abstract 2263 Investigating the Effect of Phosphorylation on StarD6 Ligand-Binding Using a Molecular Docking Approach
Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease caused by a buildup of β-amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the brain. The molecular mechanism for the early stages of this disease is currently unknown. A recent discovery of a single nucleotide polymorphism, or SNP, in the promoter region of the protein StarD6, was found linked to Alzheimer's Disease risk. StarD6, or StAR Related Lipid Transfer Domain Containing 6, consists of 210 amino acids comprising an α-helix/β-grip fold containing a cavity with ligand specificity.
