Abstract 2865 Amyloid Aggregation, Aquaporin-4 Dysregulation, and Lipid Bilayer Destabilization in Astrocytes: A Pathway to Cerebral Edema
Aquaporin-4 is a crucial channel that regulates water homeostasis and indirectly maintains the ionic balance in astrocytes. The expression of aquaporin-4 in astrocytes is highly regulated; however, aggregation of amyloid peptides has been implicated in the disruption of astrocyte function and cellular integrity. This study explored the underlying mechanisms of amyloid plaque formation and its disruption of lipid bilayer integrity, which destabilizes the Asn-Pro-Ala (NPA) motifs and contributes to cerebral edema.
