Abstract 1490 The Regulation of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus safensis malate dehydrogenase to support the bioremediation of soils
Bacteria in the genus Bacillus, including Bacillus safensis, are known to convert heavy metals into less harmful forms. This is thought to be because of adaptations in the metabolism of these bacteria. Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) plays a crucial role in the metabolism of animals and bacteria, but little is known about how MDH is regulated in these species. To investigate regulation of these enzymes by metabolites, we recombinantly expressed his-tagged B. safensis and the related B. subtilis MDH and purified them by affinity chromatography.
