Research on the Protection of Consumers’ Rights and Interests in the “Use Now, Pay Later” Model on the Kuaishou Platform

In recent years, various e-commerce platforms have introduced a new payment model called “use now, pay later”. While it seems to offer convenience to consumers, it actually conceals infringements on their rights and interests. Taking the Kuaishou platform as an example, this article analyzes the infringement of consumers’ right to know and right to choose, as well as the potential risks to their property security caused by “use now, pay later”. It reveals that the platform’s profit-driven nature, the lagging legal regulations, and consumers’ cognitive biases are the reasons for the damage to their legitimate rights and interests due to the use of this payment model. In response, this article provides corresponding strategies to address these issues. Firstly, the platform itself should take the responsibility of protecting consumers’ rights and interests, providing detailed and clear prompts for “use now, pay later”, strictly reviewing products and merchants, and establishing a complete after-sales service system. Secondly, relevant departments should introduce corresponding laws and regulations for “use now, pay later”, clearly defining the responsibilities of the platform and merchants. Finally, consumers themselves should also enhance their ability to choose products, protect information, and safeguard their rights and interests.
