Carbon Fiber and Glass Fiber Reinforced Semi‐Aromatic Polyamide Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Electrical, and Flame‐Retardancy Properties

ABSTRACT This research employed a combination of glass fiber (GF) and carbon fiber (CF) to reinforce and provide electrostatic modifications to semi‐aromatic polyamide. Additionally, aluminum diethylphosphinate (ADP), hexagonal boron nitride (BN), and nano copper oxide (CuO) were incorporated as synergistic agents for flame‐retardant modification, leading to the development of a halogen‐free, flame‐retardant, antistatic, and heat‐resistant nylon composite. The mechanical, electrical, and flame‐retardant properties, along with the fire safety characteristics of the composite, were evaluated. The findings revealed that with a fixed GF content of 20 wt%, increases in the CF content enhanced the tensile strength, flexural strength, modulus, and impact strength while reducing the surface resistivity. The composite containing 10 wt% CF and 20 wt% GF demonstrated optimal cost efficiency and antistatic performance. Both BN and CuO exhibited significant effectiveness in the condensed phase, enabling a reduction in the ADP content. The composite formulated with 8 wt% ADP, 1 wt% BN, and 0.5 wt% CuO attained a V‐0 flammability rating for 3.2 mm and 1.6 mm samples and achieved a limiting oxygen index of 39%. This composite exhibited superior comprehensive performance, indicating considerable potential for applications in high‐temperature environments such as the mining, automotive, and electronic industries.
