Escala de Actitud Hacia las Diversas Masculinidades

It is important to understand that masculinity is commonly seen as any attribution to men, which gives way to the generation of different masculinities. In Mexico there are studies that allow us to visualize the situation regarding the attitudes towards masculinities that exist today, so it is important to know the attitudes that exist regarding the issue in a country where violence is experienced every day. Interest in the topic has arisen due to the experiences of injustice and exclusion that gender produces, in addition to the presence of patriarchy which is still a reality and the questioning of the concept of masculinity, due to the roles of men and women that are currently played, which have put into debate the various notions about what it means to be a man. The objective of this study is to design a scale to identify attitudes toward various masculinities. The participants in this scale were 305 men between the ages of 18 and 79, originally from the states of Guanajuato, Mexico City, Querétaro, and Tamaulipas. Finally, the scale was made up of 22 items divided into 2 dimensions, Subordinate Masculinity (α=.947 and ω=.949) and Hegemonic Masculinity (α=.908 and ω=.918). A possible way of applying the scale would be before and after an intervention through a masculinities workshop. Furthermore, it would be very useful for professionals who study social phenomena, helping to perceive the attitude of the subject today.

It is important to understand that masculinity is commonly seen as any attribution to men, which gives way to the generation of different masculinities.
