Peak Shaving Capability Assessment Approach of Multi Flexible Resources Based on the Time-Series Production Simulation of Combined Heat and Power Systems

The rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, has introduced substantial challenges to the stability of power systems due to their intermittent nature. Consequently, evaluating the peak-shaving capacity and flexibility of power systems has become increasingly essential. This study introduces a peak-shaving capacity assessment approach based on system unit ramp rates and output margins to facilitate a more accurate evaluation. Additionally, this study examines the role of flexible resources in improving system flexibility and peak-shaving capacity under combined heat and power (CHP) constraints. Case studies validate the effectiveness of the proposed peak-shaving capacity assessment approach, confirming that the deployment of flexible resources significantly enhances peak-shaving capacity and reduces operational costs, thereby providing strong support for the planning of flexible resource integration in large-scale combined heat and power systems.
