Enhancing Reliability of Offshore Facilities Power Supply System
Offshore oil facilities are usually designed with single point of failure power supply. This jeopardizes the integrity of the critical equipment at offshore facilities such as the electric submersible pumps and expose the offshore facilities to extended downtime resulting in loss of production with major economic impact. In this paper, a reliability study for offshore oil facilities is evaluated with a single power source and redundant power sources to delineate criteria for having N-1 power supply redundancy. The study used the Failure Mode & Effect Analysis method to assess the reliability of the power supply to the offshore facilities and concludes the requirement of N-1 redundant power supply to the offshore facilities.
