Influence of impact angle on safety design of helmet

This paper has established a highly accurate helmet-head coupling model and conducted a study on the biomechanical responses of the head under various impact angles. Firstly, the finite element model of the helmet was obtained through conducting a blue light 3D scan, reverse engineering, and finite element modeling of the physical helmet. Subsequently, the finite element model of the helmet was coupled with the finite element model of the human head. Finally, through computer simulations, a parametric study on the kinematic and biomechanical responses of the head under different impact angles was carried out. The conclusion drawn is that in helmet protection design, special attention should be paid to the rotational effect when the impact angle is 45°.

Finally, through computer simulations, a parametric study on the kinematic and biomechanical responses of the head under different impact angles was carried out. The conclusion drawn is that in helmet protection design, special attention should be paid to the rotational effect when the impact angle is 45°.
