Performance Analysis of a Wideband Metamaterial Absorber for Wireless Communications at K and Ka Bands

Metamaterial absorbers (MAs) are widely recognized for their near-perfect absorption and ultrathin configurations; however, their resonance-based characteristics often limit their bandwidth. This study aims to address this limitation by developing a novel MA design that enhances bandwidth while maintaining a compact structure and straightforward fabrication process. The proposed design consists of three layers: a copper ground plane, an FR4 dielectric substrate, and a double square configuration serving as the frequency selective surface (FSS). Simulation results obtained through CST Studio indicate that the proposed MA achieves wideband absorption, with a -10 dB bandwidth of 12.18 GHz, spanning 19.82 GHz to 32.00 GHz, and a Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) bandwidth of 13.72 GHz. The findings demonstrate that the design delivers near-unity absorption at multiple frequencies, significantly improving broadband performance. This work presents a promising solution for applications demanding wideband MAs with high absorption efficiency and a simplified structural design.
