Design of a Split Ring Resonator Based Metamaterial with High Effective Medium Ratio for Wireless Communication
A Split Ring Resonator (SRR) Based Metamaterial (MTM) is designed that exhibit multiband resonances in wireless communications spectrum. The resonator is designed with 3 independent copper split rings on a FR-4 substrate. Finite integration technique (FIT) of Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software is used to model the effective parameters of the metamaterial (MTM) over a frequency range of 2-12 GHz. The outer most is square, inner most is circular and the octagonal ring is in between. The simulation result presents 4 transmission coefficient (S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">21</inf>) resonance picks negative permittivity at frequencies 2.65 GHz (S-band), 5.91 GHz (C-band), 7.34 GHz (C-band) and 11.64 GHz (X-band). The effective medium ratio (EMR) of the MTM is 11.186, indicating its compactness which would be suitable for microwave communication.
