Grid-Forming Control Technology for New Energy Converters Based on New Power Systems
Grid-Forming (GFM) control technology endows new energy power generation systems with the ability to establish and support voltage, playing a crucial role in enhancing the stability of new power systems and improving the voltage and frequency support capabilities of converters. Firstly, this paper compares the differences and connections between grid-following (GFL) control and GFM control technologies. Secondly, it introduces the current typical GFM control technologies and their implementation methods. Then, the application areas of GFM control technology are discussed. Finally, the technical challenges and opportunities faced by GFM technology are prospected.
