Operational and Maintenance Challenges of Energy Storage Systems in Microgrid
The integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in microgrids has gained significant attention in recent years due to their ability to improve the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of power supply. However, the operational and maintenance challenges of BESS in microgrids are still a major concern. This paper reviews the current state of the art of BESS in microgrids and identifies the key operational and maintenance challenges. The challenges include battery degradation, state of charge management, power quality issues, and communication protocols. It also explores the potential solutions to these challenges, including advanced battery management systems, predictive maintenance, and standardized communication protocols. The results of this study can provide valuable insights for the design, operation, and maintenance of BESS in microgrids.
