Research on Coordination Strategy and Operation Characteristics of Supercapacitor-Battery Hybrid Energy Storage System
This paper presents a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) integrating supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries, which is known for its rapid response and potential to prolong the lifespan of batteries. However, the current strategies for coordination and cooperation between supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries are not fully developed. In this paper, equivalent models for both supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries have been constructed, and simulation analyses have been conducted. The study investigates and designs a circuit topology that is compatible with the HESS, proposing corresponding coordination control strategies. The research demonstrates that, by reallocating power based on the State of Charge (SOC) of supercapacitors following initial power filtering, voltage and frequency stability can be maintained during system power fluctuations, thereby reducing the cycling frequency of lithium-ion batteries. The efficacy of this coordination strategy has been validated through simulations of the HESS's operation characteristics. The findings offer theoretical supports for the practical application of HESS that combine supercapacitors with lithium-ion batteries.
