Research on the Relationship between Cognitive Styles and English Writing under the Assistance of Artificial Intelligence
English writing is an information output process where the learners mobilize their cognitive mechanisms to encode and decode English meaning units. American psychologist Witkin classified cognitive styles into field independence and field dependence, and believed that learners with different types of cognitive style differ in language acquisition. Based on this theory, this paper analyzed the learning characteristics of different cognitive styles. Through empirical research and data analysis, three hypotheses were verified: English learners’ cognitive styles are not related to their English writing proficiency; English learners’ cognitive styles affect their English writing of different genres; cooperative learning can effectively help the English learners of different cognitive styles to improve their English writing. The experiment proved that no correlation exists between English learners’ cognitive styles and their level of English writing; English learners with field-independent cognitive styles are better at argumentative writing, while those with field-dependent styles are better at narrative writing; English learners of both cognitive styles can promote their English writing through cooperative learning. These findings not only identify deep cognitive factors affecting English writing but also provide new ideas for English writing teaching methods.
