Numerical Analysis on Icing Characteristics of Supercooled Large Droplets on Rotating Hood Model
In this paper, a suitable supercooled large droplet impingement model is selected to solve the impingement characteristics of supercooled large droplets on the surface of the rotating hood model based on the secondary development function of Fluent software, and the Shallow-Water icing thermodynamic model is modified to develop an icing model applicable to the three-dimensional rotating surface. A set of icing calculation program is developed to extract the results of multiphase flow field calculations, and the surface icing characteristics are obtained by solving the icing equations iteratively in Godunov format based on the approximate Riemann solution of the Roe method. By numerically simulating the icing of supercooled large droplets on the surface of a rotating hood model, the effects of rotational speed and incoming velocity, droplet diameter, temperature, and liquid water content on the droplet impingement characteristics and icing characteristics on the rotating surface are analyzed. The results show that: when rotational speed and incoming velocity increase, the water collection coefficient increases at the hood top, and the opposite is true at the hood tail, and the icing range expands accordingly, but the icing height at the hood top will appear to increase firstly and then decrease; the temperature has almost no effect on the water collection coefficient, but the temperature decreasing leads to an increase in icing thickness and a decrease in icing extent.
