Enhancing Efficiency in Wireless Power Transfer Through Metasurface Integration

This paper examines the application of metasurfaces to enhance the coupling of evanescent waves, thereby improving the efficiency of wireless power transfer (WPT) in systems with multiple receivers. A <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${4}\times {4}$</tex> metasurface with negative permeability is designed and positioned between the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) coils to maximize power transfer efficiency. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that metasurfaces significantly increase power transfer efficiency. The highest efficiency is observed in a multi-receiver WPT system, particularly in the configuration where a single transmitter powers four receivers (STFR). Our findings show that the system's overall efficiency can reach up to 92%.
