Thermal Performance Enhancement of a Rectangular Channel with Dual Grooves

To improve the thermal performance of internal cooling in a grooved channel, a groove configuration with dual grooves is proposed and investigated. A numerical study on the thermal performance of a rectangular channel with dual grooves is presented in this paper. The groove configurations are developed from single groove only into dual grooves with different depths to enhance the thermal performance. The flow structure, the pressure loss penalty and the thermal performance index of the rectangular channel with different groove depths of 0 to 4 are evaluated at the Reynolds numbers ranging from 12,000 to 27,000. The results indicate that the depth value affects the velocity distribution within the dual grooves. The pressure loss penalty is the highest for dual groove depth equal to 1 mm, but the thermal performance index is the highest at low Reynolds number. The single groove, with depth of 0 mm yields the lowest pressure loss penalty and the thermal performance index is the highest at high Reynolds numbers.
