Sensor Technology in Green Buildings

The development of green or sustainable buildings involves the design, construction and operation of buildings with a focus on achieving the efficient use of resources and enhanced occupant comfort in an environmentally friendly manner. Sensors play a critical role in green building design by providing valuable data that can be used to optimize building functionality and operation. This paper aims to explore the applications of sensors in green buildings, and related technological aspects. It aims to elucidate the key technological gaps in the application of sensors in green buildings, along with discussing the likely future trends in this space. By combining results from existing literature, real-world examples, and emerging technologies, this study shows how the use of sensors can become an asset to help in the evolution of green buildings.
