Modelling the Migration of Users to the Newest Generation Network in a Heterogeneous Wireless Network

This paper develops a model for investigating the challenges of users’ migration from a generation of mobile network to the newest generation of mobile network in a heterogeneous wireless network. Users’ migration in a heterogeneous network affects resource utilization, QoS provisioning, and operators’ revenue. Existing works on migration have focused on the deployment of the newest generation of mobile network by network operators. However, the success of an operator in deploying the newest generation of mobile network does not only depend on the coverage and capacity provided by the operator but also on the migration of users to the newly deployed network. Thus, this paper focuses on the above topic. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the factors that affect users’ migration in a heterogeneous wireless network.
