Understanding the Crucial Legal Implications of Edge and Fog Computing in Data Privacy and Security laws in the UAE
This paper comprehensively examines corporations' legal, technical, and business frameworks to ensure compliance with Federal Law No. (46) of 2021 on Electronic Commerce and Transactions in the UAE. It specifically focuses on data protection at the edges and fogs of networks, highlighting the challenges of outdated laws and regulations. These challenges can lead to potential security issues, financial losses, and reduced risk mitigation in edge and fog computing environments. The paper also explores the unique regulatory and compliance challenges posed by edge and fog computing, characterized by localized data processing and immediate implementation. It addresses critical questions about the nature and location of edge computing and its implications for data privacy and security. Furthermore, it discusses the growing impact of these technologies on personal data protection (PDP) and essential network infrastructure (PENI) in the UAE. By providing an overview of edge and fog computing architectures and their benefits, such as reduced latency and bandwidth usage, the paper strongly emphasizes the urgent need for updated laws and regulations to address the rapid advancements in these computing paradigms.
