Experimental investigation of jute fibres as a partial replacement of cement in concrete
Concrete is a widely used construction material, but maintaining its strength and durability can be challenging. This study explores the use of natural fibres, specifically jute fibres, as a budget-friendly alternative to enhance the strength of concrete. The research focuses on evaluating the compressive strength characteristics of plain cement concrete by adding jute fibres at different percentages. The study aims to determine the optimal fibre content that maximizes the compressive strength.Jute fibres are abundantly produced in as it possesses high strength, making them suitable for structural use.Incorporating jute fibres enhances both the durability and strength of the concrete.Materials such as jute fibres, cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and clean water were used. The fibres employed were 20 mm in length. The specimens were prepared by hand mixing the materials, pouring them into cube-shaped moulds, and compacting them properly. After curing, the casted specimens were tested at intervals of 7, 14, and 28 days. The study concludes that jute fibres can effectively reinforce concrete and improve its strength, and their uniform dispersion enhances the microstructure of the cement concrete by reducing porosity and preventing cracks [7].The research finds that jute fibres can strengthen the concrete effectively, enhancing its durability by reducing porosity and prevents crack development by their uniform dispersion. MATERIALS USED Jute FibresJute fibres are naturally available and are environmentally friendly. They possess high strength, making them suitable for structural use.For this study, raw jute fibres were utilized after being cut into lengths of 20 mm.Various percentages of jute fibres, ranging from 0.3%, 0.5% and 0.7% by the weight of cement are used to cast the
