Influence of Water Temperature on Intraspecific Aggressiveness of Round Goby Neogobius melanostomus, and Pinchuk Goby Ponticola cephalargoides

The study deals with impact of water temperature on the intraspecific aggressiveness of two species of Ponto-Caspian gobies: Neogobius melanostomus and Ponticola cephalargoides. Experiments were conducted in laboratory conditions under temperature ranging from 10 to 26°C, with 2°C increments. The results have shown that the water temperature increase aggressiveness of both species, but starting from 22°C its degree begins to decrease. These results are important for understanding the ecological adaptations and invasive potential of these fishes, which can help develop strategies for the invasive species management.
