The Mediating Effect of Mindfulness on the Relationship Between Post-Traumatic Stress and Depression in Glaucoma Patients
This study aimed to examine the levels of post-traumatic stress and depression in glaucoma patients and to verify the mediating effect of mindfulness in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and depression. A total of 125 glaucoma patients voluntarily participated in the survey, which assessed their levels of post-traumatic stress, mindfulness, and depression through online questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The results showed that: (1) Half of the glaucoma patients reported post-traumatic stress symptoms and mild depression, indicating a risk for PTSD. (2) Mindfulness significantly mediated the relationship between post-traumatic stress and depression. This study is significant in that it identifies mindfulness as a potential psychological intervention to alleviate maladaptive emotional responses in glaucoma patients. Based on these findings, implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
