Indian Society of Periodontology’s role in nurturing young periodontists
Dear Esteemed Members, The field of periodontology is evolving rapidly, and with it, the need for well-trained, competent, and research-driven periodontists is more critical than ever. As the Honorary Secretary of the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), I take great pride in our society’s unwavering commitment to supporting and guiding young periodontists in their professional journey. ISP has always been at the forefront of fostering excellence in periodontal education, research, and clinical practice. Our mission is to create an ecosystem where young periodontists are empowered with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to excel in their careers. Through various initiatives, ISP aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world clinical applications. One of our key endeavors is the organization of conferences, workshops, and continuing dental education programs tailored specifically for budding periodontists. These platforms offer unparalleled opportunities to learn from experts, engage in hands-on training, and stay updated with the latest advancements in periodontal therapies. We strongly encourage postgraduate students to actively participate in these events, present their research, and interact with mentors who can shape their careers. Research is the backbone of any evolving discipline, and ISP remains committed to promoting evidence-based periodontology. We provide grants, scholarships, and research awards to encourage young minds to explore new frontiers in periodontal science. This year, we have seen an exponential rise in the submission of implant related research proposals for grant support from ISP, after the successful disbursement of Rs. 45 lakhs worth implant hardware to 32 awardees in 2024. By fostering a culture of scientific inquiry, we aim to strengthen the foundation of periodontal and implantology practice in India. Mentorship plays a pivotal role in professional growth, and ISP takes pride in connecting young periodontists with experienced professionals in the field. Our mentorship programs are designed to offer guidance in clinical decision-making, ethical practice, and career development, ensuring that young professionals are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of modern dentistry. Furthermore, ISP recognizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and encourages young periodontists to work alongside other dental and medical specialists to deliver holistic patient care. The integration of periodontics with implantology, prosthodontics, and oral medicine opens new avenues for innovation and comprehensive treatment planning. As we move forward, our goal is to continually adapt and introduce initiatives that cater to the evolving needs of young periodontists. I urge all young members of ISP to actively engage with the society, make the most of available resources, and contribute to the advancement of our specialty. Your passion and dedication will shape the future of periodontology in India. Let us work together to uphold the highest standards of periodontal care, research, and education. With best regards,
