Exploring a Balanced Viewpoint in Policy-making Concerning Child Education: Bangladesh Perspective
The question of who should have the authority to make decisions about child education is a complex one which requires an intense review from moral, social, political and above all, philosophical perspectives. The answer of this question is not straightforward and there is an ongoing debate on the matter. This is why it is essential to analyze the philosophical foundations of this long-standing debate, considering children’s right, parental responsibilities, the role of the state, and more importantly, the influence of the community. This paper, therefore, examines the issues through the lens of various philosophical perspectives, including liberalism, utilitarianism, collectivism, and critical pedagogy. It proposes a cohesive and contextually relevant model for effectively addressing the current crisis in Bangladesh. Moreover, the paper discusses the necessary steps for implementing this proposed model. By discussing and analyzing the philosophical perspectives, theories as well as highlighting the practical implications of the roles of parents, the state and the children themselves in decision-making, the article presents arguments in favor of balanced viewpoint, which will be more justified and helpful to develop a compassionate mindset by ensuring best educational outcomes for children.
