Approach to the educational context and linguistic needs that are present in Primary education classrooms in the wilaya of Awserd

In this work, which is part of the “RASDELE project: training on teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in the Sahrawi refugee camps of Awserd and Dakhla”, we consider making a first approach to the Spanish Language Classrooms in Walda Mohamed Ali’s Primary School, located in the wilaya of Awserd. Based on the teaching experiences of various members of the university community who visited the center during the 2023-2024 academic year, we analyzed how the methodology they follow was, which were the students’ focus of interest and the factors that caused greater demotivation, as well as the main linguistic challenges in this learning process. As a result of this research, and in a second phase of the project, a few measures were already implemented to address these needs, starting with the elaboration of updated and more appealing materials, as well as providing specific training to the school teachers to improve their language skills and to adopt methodology strategies that promote attention and motivation in class.
