Support Vector Machines Based Evaluation of High Impedance Fault for Medium Voltage Radial Distribution Network - A Case Study
Quality of power supply to the Industrial and Domestical consumers will be the primary goal by power distribution corporations to avoid damage to the consumer equipment. Basically, this equipment is operated in the range of medium voltage such as 11 KV and 440 volts for some equipment. To provide the quality of supply to consumers, we have protective system and other protective devices. But the problem arises when there are faults like High Impedance Fault which are not been seen by the conventional overcurrent relays. This paper discusses about the use of Machine learning algorithms like Linear Regression, K Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Support Vector Machines Algorithm for detecting the HIF for real time Medium Voltage Radial Distribution System (MV RDS) located at Kothapallimitta 220 KV substation near Vedurukuppam town, Tirupati District. The SVM method has got better results when compared with other methods.
