A Novel Metasurface-Embedded Antenna for WBAN Communications
This study presents the design and analysis of a metasurface-integrated antenna operating at 5.8 GHz. The proposed structure is built on a polyimide substrate and employs microstrip edge feeding. The dimension of the proposed antenna measured 20 mm × 16 mm 0.508 mm. A novel metasurface unit cell is designed and ×optimized to achieve double-negative characteristics within the operating band. The antenna demonstrates a gain of 7.63 dBi and a directivity of 8.22 dBi. Additionally, SAR analysis reveals a specific absorption rate of 0.769 W/kg for 10g of tissue. With enhanced gain and reduced SAR, the proposed antenna is highly applicable for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) applications.
