Inverter Switching Loss Optimization for PMSM Drives Based on Customer-designed Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control
The model predictive control (MPC) technique has emerged as an effective alternative for motor drive applications that require a rapid dynamic response. However, traditional MPC approaches suffer from increased switching losses due to the unnecessary switching events of the inverter. To address the above issue, this paper proposes a novel finite control set MPC method with reduced switching losses, utilizing a control Lyapunov function to guide the input selection for permanent magnet synchronous motor drives. The new selected vector achieves a balance between the switching frequency and the total harmonic distortion of the stator current. Compared to conventional field-oriented control (FOC) methods, the proposed approach significantly reduces the inverter switching loss while maintaining the fast dynamic response and high steady-state performance. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are given to validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed method over traditional FOC techniques.
