Design and Experimental Studies of RF Up/Down Conversion using GNU Radio and SDR
Software Defined Radio (SDR) is becoming a crucial component of modern satellite communication systems, which enables greater flexibility and reconfigurability. As satellite communication often involves RF up/down-conversions for effective operational requirements, SDR technology offers an adaptive approach crucial for real time changes in frequency bands, modulations schemes and signal processing. This paper addresses an approach that revolves around the design, implementation and experimental investigation of SDR and GNU radio-based RF up/down-conversion. Experimental studies are demonstrated for up/down-conversion approach involving BPSK modulated signals between L and C/Ku band. This approach leverages GNU Radio and SDR technology providing a seamless transition mechanism for RF signal conversion. This has potential applications ranging from satellite communication to electronic warfare allowing dynamic management of RF spectrum.
