MEGUX: A UX Model for Mobile Educational Game Evaluation
Mobile educational games offer opportunities for innovative learning experiences but present unique challenges due to the distinctiveness of mobile platforms. This study introduces MEGUX, a user experience (UX) evaluation model designed specifically for mobile educational games. MEGUX expands and combines components from existing models, such as GEQ, E-GUESS, playability heuristics, Pre-MEGa, and EDUGX, while focusing on six key components: Flow, Immersion, Game Usability, Player Context, Mobility, and Learning. Its key contribution includes incorporating mobility and player context components to address mobile adaptability, temporal influences, and surrounding relevance, often underrepresented in existing frameworks. The model was validated through a pilot study involving 78 undergraduate participants. The analysis showed that MEGUX is reliable and effectively captures the relevant aspects of user experience, with Cronbach’s alpha scores ranging from 0.730 to 0.949. The iterative refinement process reduced the framework to 80 items, ensuring clarity and alignment with MEGUX objectives. MEGUX provides a structured way to evaluate mobile educational games and their ability to balance usability, engagement, and learning outcomes.
