Enhancing the Digital Forensics Presentation Phase Through Immersive Virtual Reality Training Environments
The final phase of a digital forensics investigation, often referred to as the ‘presentation’ phase, requires not only technical know-how but also well-honed communication, legal knowledge, and professional demeanor. An effective presentation of findings can influence the results of legal proceedings and determine the credibility of the digital forensic expert. This paper examines the importance of the presentation phase, considering technical writing standards, legal considerations, and communication strategies essential for expert witness testimony. We further propose a virtual reality (VR) training environment framework designed to help digital forensics professionals of every level develop robust presentation skills. By immersing trainees in a simulated courtroom or legal setting, the VR solution provides a safe environment to practice delivering findings, responding to cross-examination, and employing proper legal terminology. The ultimate goal is to improve both the technical and soft skills needed for effective presentation, improving the preparedness and confidence of digital forensic practitioners.
