Advanced Startup Current Analysis for the Detection of Broken Outer Bars in Dual-Cage Induction Motors Considering Bar Materials
This paper provides an study on the detection of broken outer bars in double-cage induction motors (DCIMs) by means of advanced transient current analysis and a automated numeric fault indicator. A 45 kW DCIM was assessed using detailed 2D finite element analysis in order to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed technique in different operating conditions and rotor bar materials. Results indicate that the proposed transient analysis method is able to correctly detect broken outer bars, with a robust response and negligible variations generated by the operating condition and rotor bar materials.
