Particular Surface Mounted PM Motor Control Technique Based on Active Harmonic Elimination
This paper proposes an advanced methodology for active harmonic elimination in low-speed surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), focusing on efficiently compensating current harmonics under particular pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter supply. The method is based on magnetic field reconstruction technique that optimizes finite element analysis (FEA), by using a coarse mesh, which greatly enhances both computational efficiency and accuracy. This technique effectively accounts for space harmonics and armature reaction effects on local saturation, significantly reducing torque ripple and motor losses. The approach addresses the challenges of low reactance encountered in direct-drive motors, involving low fundamental frequency and significant flux harmonics. Experimental validation on a prototype motor drive system confirms the method's effectiveness in optimizing motor performance and improving efficiency, illustrating its advantages for electric vehicle applications.
