MEAL MATCH: A Food Donation Platform

As per NSFA act 2013, providing global food security to all by ensuring a healthy living is primary need of the hour. The statistical record portrays one-third of the food produced globally is wasted. The fundamental global goal is to effectively utilize the available food sources among the local communities by eliminating the wastage of food. To reduce food waste and promote sustainability, many restaurants, stores, and food distribution centers are focusing on managing leftover food items and perishable goods that are nearing expiration. This paper primarily focuses on the realization of the first two UN Sustainability Development Goals viz. No poverty and zero hunger by the development of an interesting website called MEAL MATCH. The development of this ubiquitous computational platform for visualizing available food resources in local areas can be significantly enhanced by leveraging principles from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). By incorporating AI, the platform can efficiently manage and predict food availability, while HCI principles ensure that it is user-friendly and accessible. The platform's effectiveness is evaluated through user surveys, providing valuable feedback for continuous improvement. By offering real-time information on surplus food, this platform positively impacts both healthcare and the environment by enabling people to access food that would otherwise go to waste, thereby addressing hunger and reducing food waste simultaneously.
