Reducing chattering by hybrid control of a DFIG-based wind power system

With the challenges of energy transition and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, wind power is establishing itself as a clean, sustainable source of renewable energy. Optimizing the conversion of this energy requires advanced control strategies to ensure efficient and stable production even under variable wind conditions. This article proposes a hybrid control approach for a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) integrated in a wind energy system, combining the resilience of sliding mode control (SMC) and the flexibility of backstepping. The approach adopted starts with the mathematical modelling of the hybrid controller and then its application to the two converters. The benefits of the proposed strategy is evaluated by means of simulations carried out in MATLAB/Simulink. The outcomes show a significant improvement in terms of stability, dynamic response and robustness to external disturbances and variations in operating conditions.
