Design of a modified U Patch Antenna for Wireless Communications
This paper deals with the design and optimization of a modified U Patch structure for performance parameters for advanced wireless applications. Three different patch antenna structures are formulated and analyzed. Initially a U shaped antenna was designed and alterations are done using slot structures. Then the structure is modified and finally an improved DMS structure is formulated over the designed antenna. The antenna designs are done using the high frequency structural simulator (HFSS) software that performs electromagnetic simulations. The comparison with the conventional U patch structure along with the other antenna designs shows significant improvements, making it suitable for modern communication systems. The obtained simulated results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed modifications in the antenna design. Seven resonant frequencies are generated using the DMS structure with improved return loss characteristics. It is suitable for WiMAX, C band as well as the X band wireless standards.
