Mathematical Modeling and Simulation Analysis of a Peak Current Mode Controlled Phase-Shifted Fullbridge Converter with ZVS
Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge (PSFB) converters are gaining popularity in electric vehicle (EV) battery chargers and commercial applications due to their superior efficiency and ability to achieve Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), minimizing switching losses. The PSFB is best suited for high-power conversion due to its robustness and reliability. Peak Current Mode Control (PCMC) is crucial in PSFB converters because it enhances the dynamic response, and provides inherent transformer flux balancing and over current protection. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of a peak current mode controlled PSFB converter, elaborating on its working principle and ZVS capabilities. This study summarizes the design steps for the converter's main components and develops a comprehensive mathematical model that includes duty cycle loss and slope compensation incorporated in the peak current mode control. Extensive simulation analyses using MATLAB/Simulink validated the theoretical models and design methodology. Moreover, a compensator was designed to ensure optimal performance, and its effectiveness was demonstrated through simulations.
