Optimizing Electric Vehicle Charging Station Placement in IEEE-118 Bus System
The increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) as an environmentally friendly transportation option has led to a surge in electricity demand, particularly at Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS). This heightened demand poses significant challenges for Radial Distribution Systems (RDS), contributing to increased power losses and deteriorating voltage profiles. To address these issues, this study presents an optimized strategy for placing capacitor banks within RDS, aimed at minimizing annual energy loss costs associated with power losses. We evaluate the proposed strategy using two optimization methods: Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Our analysis, conducted on the IEEE 118-bus test system, shows that the GWO approach results in a 1.85% reduction in power losses, while the PSO method achieves an 8.04% reduction. Furthermore, our methodology improves bus voltage profiles and demonstrates faster convergence rates, highlighting its potential to enhance the efficiency and reliability of distribution networks.
