Exploring Inter-Pole Asymmetric Rotor Design for Torque Ripple Reduction in Pmasynrms Under Different Ferrite Usage Levels
This work builds upon the “Machaon” rotor configuration, developing a 4-pole inter-polar asymmetric rotor for torque ripple reduction in Permanent Magnet-assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMaSynRMs). It further explores the relationship between machine performance and ferrite usage. Parametric modeling and optimization are performed for both symmetric and asymmetric rotors, considering four different ferrite areas for 2D simulations, resulting in eight distinct Pareto front curves for torque ripple. The results show that, compared to symmetric rotors (SYMs), asymmetric rotors (ASYMs) reduce torque ripple and iron loss while maintaining the same torque output. Additionally, as ferrite quantity increases, rotor asymmetry decreases. These findings highlight the potential of asymmetric rotor configurations in improving motor performance and provide preliminary insights into the relationship between asymmetry and ferrite usage.
